New Text New Theatre Festival 8

The New Text New Theatre Project, which has been going on since 2006 and which has been aiming to discover new playwrights and create a space for contemporary playwriting, has enabled new playwrights to meet with audiences during its eighth festival.

New Text New Theatre Festival 8 which set out with the slogan “Theatre Transforms” and left behind a program full of stage readings, interviews and panels, the New Text New Theatre Project will continue to discover new writers and directors with its workshops.

The festival, which started out as directing project that spread to many locations around Galata, was host to a full program with stage readings, interviews and the “Contemporary Theatre in Turkey” panel that was organised in cooperation with IKSV, led by directors like Ayşe Sedef Ayter, Ayşe Lebriz, Murat Mahmutyazıcıoğlu, İmer Özgün Bademci, Sanem Öge, Şaziye Konaç and Yeşim Özsoy

New Text New Theatre “Play of the Year” Award Found its Winner in its Second Year!

The “Play of the Year” Award, which was given to Ömer Kaçar’s play, “Guest” for the first time last year, goes to Itır Karabulut for his play “Remaining Ones”. The play was presented to the audience as part of the 23rd Istanbul Theatre Festival Programme, cooperating with IKSV and staged with English surtitles, directed by Yeşim Özsoy.

The play, “Guest” that was written during the New Text New Theatre Workshops, won its playwright the International Playwright Award and the Audience Award at the 36th.   Heidelberger Stückemartk Festival by invitation of the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg. Kaçar’s “Guest” will also meet with the audience in 2020 as a Kumbaracı50 production.

The “Play of the Year” reading, which is selected from among the plays written during the workshops, will continue to take place in the Istanbul Theatre Festival programme in cooperation with IKSV in the coming years!
