‘Aksak Istanbul Stories’ is a work that focuses on the structuring of the irregular rhythm of Ottoman music in terms of sound, text, and acting. The play consists of 12 interconnected characters and their fragmented 12 different monologues. The internal rhythm of the stories mimics the irregular rhythm system known as ‘aksak’ in Turkish Classical Music. The play is an interpretation of the harmony of irregularity, based on concepts such as flow/hesitation, symmetry/asymmetry, and harmony/disharmony.
